The Opelousas Fire Department is dedicated to serving the Opelousas community and are honored to carry out our mission to provide efficient and effective protection of life and property to the citizens of Opelousas and the surrounding area. The Opelousas Fire Department has four stations located in each section of Opelousas (North, South, West, and Downtown).

Each stations has three shifts - A shift, B shift, and C shift. Equipment includes:

Four (4) initial response fire trucks
One (1) spare fire truck
One (1)75 foot ladder truck
One (1) service truck
One (1) fire safety trailer for demonstrations at schools and businessess to show the importance of fire safety.
The fire department responds to all emergency incidents including fires, smoke scares, gas leaks, major auto accidents, and any other incident that requires the fire department. Firefighters are required to go through an initial fire school for ten (10) weeks before they are placed on shift. Every firefighter is required to do a minimum of 240 total hours of training per year. The Opelousas Fire Department implemented a health and wellness program for the fire department.
